Do i have a double personality?

Hi
I often go through something that I call ” Double Personality”. Every time I’m alone, with the Quran and my prayer mat. I pray and sit there for hours. Reading the Quran and praying. But every time someone comes in, like a family member, and asks for something or needs my help I get cared away.
The same thing happens in school, every time I’m alone and it’s calm and quiet, I pray and read Quran a lot. But when someone comes I lose my concentration. Even when I study, if I’m alone I get things done much faster than when someone is around me.
So What can that be? Do I have a problem or is this normal?
Bless you.

Assalamu alaikum,
This is normal. However when you recite Quran or do some good deed don’t be affected by the intrusion of the people. For example if you are praying in your room alone, suddenly your parents come in, don’t break your Salah, out of shyness from them, because this means you aren’t praying for the sake of Allah but for pleasing others or you think about what others say about your good deeds. So instead of stopping to pray or acting to pray when someone comes into your room, one should continue praying of reciting Quran for the sake of Allah, for pleasing him. If you stop praying due to shyness from your parents or friends or pray due to the fear of your parents and friends, then this is a major sin and these are the attributes of a hypocrite.

As for the case where you are reciting Quran or studying and suddenly someone comes into your privacy or room, and starts to disturb you then obviously you will lose your concentration. And this is a matter of concentration. In this case if it affects your concentration on reciting Quran or studies just tell your family members or friends to not talk right now since you are studying or focusing on reciting Quran, unless it’s an emergency in where you can stop reciting Quran if you wish to and attend that emergency.
This is normal for many people who get distracted while studying or doing something when others come to their privacy. However some people are able to study or focus even when people are around them. For example there are people who can even sleep in classroom where there is noise.
And there are people who can even study in such an environment of noise.
But this doesn’t mean everyone can do it. Best is to study and recite Quran in a peaceful and calm environment.
If your family member asks you for something you can help them and then should continue reciting Quran or studying whatever you are studying don’t get carried away to the point you forget about studying completely the whole day. Or if you easily get disturbed and lose interest tell your friends and parents that you will be busy and that you want to study peacefully and that you’ll be free later.

And Allah knows best
