Bilāl bin Sa’d رحمه الله stated:
“Do not be the friend of Allāh in the public (eye) while you are His enemy in private.”
[Al-Ikhlās wa An-Niyyah (23)]
This can be interpreted in various ways:
1. Dont make deen a public show
2. Renew your intentions before you commit any good deed
3. Sometimes people sin in private although usually they aren’t so, especially in public, they should look at their intentions and heart, does it desire peoples pleasure or is it just that in private spaces shaitaans whispers just gets the best of them… Its better to be a victim of the later and repent than to intentionally sin in private while put a facade or show in the public just to gain the masses approval or respect or be seen as religious as this is a very dangerous matter.
4. Know before any action you commit that Allah is aware and He knows what’s hidden, what’s private and what’s unseen, whatever you do, do as if Allah is watching you on every step or as if He is infront of you. This is also how you will be able to attain Ihsaan.
5. Dont ever be a major hypocrite, you will never be able to decieve Allah, maybe people but never Allah, and you wouldn’t want to end up in hellfire either, and try your best to fix the minor hypocrisy as well which we all are affected by sadly… And alongside it try making repentance part of your treatment, be sincere in it and consistent depending on the times you repeat the sin until you take control and do more good deeds for every sin you do.
And Allah knows best.
